FTO Is Going Official — and Cube Battle Live Is Ready
FTO is stepping into the official spotlight, and Cube Battle Live is already giving cubers a place to scramble, solve, rank, and race it.
FTO is becoming a WCA event
Face Turning Octahedron is having its moment. The World Cube Association announced in June 2026 that FTO is being added to the official WCA event list, with competitions able to include it starting January 2, 2027.
That is a big deal for speedcubing. New official events do not happen often, and FTO brings a totally different feel: fast recognition, weird-but-fun turning, and a puzzle that rewards both practice and calm execution.
FTO scrambles are now in Cube Battle Live
Cube Battle Live has added FTO to the scramble list, so you can start generating proper FTO scrambles inside the same speedcubing timer you already use for 3x3, Skewb, Pyraminx, Square-1, and the rest of your events.
That means no bouncing around between tools just to practice the new event. Open the app, pick FTO, get a scramble, and start building solves.
Ranked FTO solves are live too
Practice is cool, but ranked solves make it feel real. FTO now supports ranked attempts in Cube Battle Live, giving cubers a way to start setting times, chasing personal bests, and climbing the cubing leaderboard before WCA competitions officially begin offering it.
Because FTO is coming in as an Average of 5 event, ranked Ao5 practice is going to matter. The sooner cubers get comfortable with the event, the easier it will be to walk into that first official comp with confidence.
Perfect timing for battles and brackets
FTO also fits the Cube Battle Live vibe perfectly. Same scramble racing, live cubing battles, and Battle Bracket pressure are all made for a puzzle like this.
As more cubers pick it up, FTO rooms and online cubing tournament formats can become a fun way to learn the event together. Nobody has years of official history yet, so the playing field feels wide open.
